Show BALL AND CUE Ivcs Stll Lending lly Over Seven Hundred Point New York Nor 14 When play was begun between Schaefer and Ives tonight to-night there was only a fair attendance As the evening progressed however the seats filled up and tine attendance equaled any of the previous nights When Ives made his run of 122 Tuesday Tues-day nist and made his score of 1200 the limit for two nights play the balls were inside the line at the end of the table Ives finished his twentysixth inning tonight and made a run of but nine points The score when play commenced com-menced was Ives 1200 Schaefer 832 Jves left the balls together and Schaefer ran 29 points and failed on a bank shot in the center of the table Ives started and ran 17 points Schaefer made a run of 6 and Ives stopped after making one point This gave the table to Schaefer again who ran his score up 23 points Iyes started in again with a straightline shot and a follow He was a little nervous and missed an open after running only six points Schaefer ha1 to take the balls separated sepa-rated but managed to get them into a corner There by a mIscue he got his cue ball behind them and in a follow shot failed at 1 The layout was encouraging when Ives started in again encouragng Up 79 missing on a crosstable draw The Wizard did not prove himself equal to his title at this stage of the game for he could do but little with the ivories After Ives had made 78 Schaefer went at i and only run nine missing on a long shot Ives then made 21 He missed on a masse At this point Sohaefer commenced to PICK up ana made a run of 61 He fell I down on being inside the balk line Ives led his opponent in good form and the next time he took his cue he ran up 124 points He was frequently frequenty applauded for his beautiful masse shots The wizard scored a blank and his op ponent ran the balls all over the green and did nearly as he pleased When he finished he had run 67 and stopped by losing a masse When Sohaefer went to work again he made the best shot of the evening when he made his twenty seventh point of the inning His cue ball was on the rail between the two To make this shot he had to make one I of the finest masse scores seen In the tournay His score was 38 when lie quit Ives did some pretty work in the next inning When he opened on the thirty fourth inning he < wanted only 137 points to run out He had good control of the balls and ran to 92 missing on a draw at the corner This put his score Ito within 45 of the limit Schaefer then made 56 points everyone of which wer made with pretty shots At the next inning Ives had to be content with two points slipping up on a masse Schaefer then made 20 points and missed on an open plain Ives then ran 43 and game Score Ives9 157 1 6 78 21 124 67 92 2 4300 Grand total 1800 Tonights averages 54 Gll highest run 157 Schaefer29 6 23 1 9 61 0 38 53 20250 Grand total 1082 Tonigfhts average 25 highest run 61 Average for tournament Schaefer 30 18 Ives 50 |
