Show Burbank CCC Notes It isn't every foreman who is the proud possessor of an M. S. degree, but Foreman Edward W. Anthon of Camp Burbank, near Garrison, achieved that distinction this year. Because of his duties at the camp, he was unable to appear ap-pear at his graduation so the personnel per-sonnel decided that he should graduate anyway. With the help of one or two falsified telegrams the impression was conveyed to Mr. Anthon that a special graduation was being arranged ar-ranged at the camp. The ceremony cere-mony was half through before it became evident that it was not the real thing. However, Mr. Anthon b,as the real diploma frcm Utah State Agricultural college now in his possession. He majored in entomology, (insects, to you) and had experience fighting the Mormon Mor-mon crickets in South Dakota previous pre-vious to coming to this camp. Not content with an M. S., Ted decided that he should go out after MRS. and was equally fortunate in getting her on July 3. She was the charming Miss Helen Sterling and, being good members of the Mormon faith, they were married at the Manti temple. Bride and bridegroom are at home at the Lehman caves national monument, where they have taken one of the miv cottages being built there. Mr. Anthon is working under the hiolo'k-ul survey, is the safety-assistant safety-assistant and is teaching a popular class in biology with the emphasis on (you guessed it) insects. . With the arrival of Lieutenant Jesse F. Warren jr. at Camp Burbank, Bur-bank, Company 1506 CCC once more loses a popular commander and gains a new one. Lieutenant Warren replaces Lieutenant Donald Don-ald D. Doicl, who, in the brief time he has been with the company, has trained the respect and friendship of the entire company. At a farewell fare-well party for the departing officer, offi-cer, Lieutenant Warren, the new commander, presided and the boys showed their affection for their departing commander. Lieutenant Dodd urged tha men to render to their new commander the same type of loyalty they hail given him. Lieutenant Dodd will return to his home in Ohic. Lieutenant Warren comes to the company with considerable experience. ex-perience. After training in the University of Florida looking toward- a legal career, Lieutenant Warren, who comes originally from Apalachicola, Florida, obtained duty with the fiCth Infantry cf the regular army as a lieutenant under the Thomasen act. After the customary cus-tomary period of duty under this statute, Lieutenant Warren served briefly in the' 4th corps and on October 1937 came with company 482 to this corps area, being assigned as-signed to Antelope Springs near Delta. He remained on duty at that camp as junior officer and later as commanding officer until June of this year. While at Delta Lieutenant Warren showed his interest in-terest in Utah by marrying a young lady from Delta on May 4 of this year. Lieutenant Warren expressed his pleasure at once more being assigned as-signed to a Utah camp after a brief stay at Cherry Creek camp in Nevada. Owning property in Millard county, he naturally feels at home here and looks forward to the possibility of establishing a home in Utah and eventually opening open-ing a law practice jshould his plans mature as anticipated. Lieutenant Warren has made an excellent impression on a company 1 I .vhich has been exceedingly fur- tunate in its commanding officers. All are looking forWL atn'iier period of aceompli.-hinnt u" !'T his guidance. |
