Show , 1 r . : fiord, Soever Service Groups Hold Joint Meeting at ilford w A very successful get-together meeting of service group workers of Milford, Beaver and Minersville was held Wednesday evening in Milford, the rgular semi-monthly dinner meeting of the local Lions club being utilized for the purpose on suggestion of E. R. Moody, incoming in-coming president of the club, who formally took office with the beginning be-ginning of the month. Though the meeting was said by one of those present to be the first joint meeting in some eight years' time, all who expressed themselves were unanimous in the hope that similar simi-lar get-together sessions would be held at frequent intervals. Lion President Moody conducted the meeting, which was held in the Union Pacific dining room, while Grant Tolton, one of the most active ac-tive members of the Beaver Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, led the group in singing a number of songs. W. A. Firmage, president of the Beaver Chamber of Commerce, speaking for his organization, expressed thc appreciation of himself and his fellows for the invitation to come to Milford and stated that it was their hope to return the invitation in the near future. Lion M. H. Pool, for Milford, and D. E. Stap-ley, Stap-ley, for Beaver, introduced to the group those in attendance from their respective communities. Lion L. A. Wynaught, president of the Milford town board of trustees, trus-tees, in a few well-chosen remarks, told of his pleasure in being numbered num-bered among such a representative group of Beaver county citizens and thought that similar joint meetings in the future would do much for the common good of all. Lion J. C. Smith, cashier of the Milford State bank, told of some of the accomplishments cf the Milford Mil-ford Lions club in sponsoring and supporting various worth-while community projects, and promised his hearers that they and all southern sou-thern Utah would have something cf which they could well be proud in the 1939 Beaver County fair, to be held in Milford September 7-8-9. Mr. Tolton, called on by President Presi-dent Firmage to tell what the Beaver Bea-ver group's road committee was doing, stated that the Puffer's lake highway, an extension of highway 21, was suffering somewhat by reason of its transfer from the state highway system to the forest service, the transfer leaving it without any sizeable appropriation appropria-tion for this year. However, the forest service was proceeding at once with improvement of that section sec-tion of the road between the lake and Junction, assuring its early completion. Lion Wynaught seized the op-, portunity to urge that the heavy guns of both organizations be j brought to bear on the state road commission to insure mere recognition recog-nition for highway 21 throughout its length, reminding his hearers of non-kept promises of the commission com-mission that this road would be oiled from Milford to the Nevada line "by 1937" a promise which has had no signs of fulfillment. Further discussion of this matter, in which speakers from both Beaver and Milford concurred, brought forth motions that the road committees of both organizations, organiza-tions, reinforced by the presidents, should see that an interview was ' arranged with the state commission commis-sion and the improvement of this road urged upon that body. State Representative Clif Mc-Shane Mc-Shane of Beaver, County Commissioner Commis-sioner Ivan McKnight of Milford, former Representative Frank Low of Beaver, Hyrum Lee, immediate past president of the Beaver Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, J. R. Murdock, veteran member of the Milford Lions club, Lion R. R. Shannon I and Dr. E. A. Pettey of Beaver 1 spoke along similar lines. The lat-I lat-I ter felt to commend especially the ! wonderful work being s done for ! future citizens of the state at the ' Boys State camp at Jordan Nar-' Nar-' rows, where a large group of jun- ior and senior high school boys, in- eluding four from Beaver, are being be-ing given valuable training in citi-I citi-I zenship under the sponsorship of the American Legion. I John Moore Williams, president of the Milford Junior Chamber of Commerce and a director in the state organization, detailed some of the incidents leading up to the organization of the local unit and told of the prospects for a similar organization in Beaver, urging the support of the senior group in such a movement in Beaver as it had been given in Milford by the Lions club. Lion President Moody, in conclusion, con-clusion, told of the splendid efforts being put forth at the Milford fair grounds to provide a favorable set-! set-! ting for the county fair this fall and thanked those present for com- , ing, making a fervent plea for ex-! tension of the spirit of unity be-j be-j spoken by those who had taken part in the meeting, i Beaver guests in attendance at j the joint dinner meeting were W.
