Show PRISON OFFICERS APPREHEND ESCAPEE HERE Robert Worthen, 28," escaped Utah penitentiary convict, was apprehended ap-prehended near the D. & R. G. W. railroad station here and returned to the penitentiary Thursday afternoon. af-ternoon. He was taken while he was drinking coffee with two "hoboes" near the railroad tracks by Warden War-den John E. Harris and Guard Captain Lyman M. Sherwood. The warden said he received a telephone call shortly before noon Thursday from persons living near the D. & R. G. W. railroad station in Springville. They reported that a man "who looks like a prisoner" was lying near the tracks. The officers left immediately to come to Springville and upon arriving began a search of the "jungles" near the tracks. They found Worthen reclining on a bank with his shoes and socks off. He was wearing a prison shirt, but had on a pair of black trousers. Worthen said he had walked all the way to Springville after disappearing disap-pearing from a prison-leased farm at Fifty-Ninth South and Third East streets about 3:30 a. m. Tuesday. He had been working on the farm with four other trustees. Rent increases averaging five to twelve per cent were imposed on American tenants last year. |
