Show Niven Is Cast As Suave Hero In Show "Raffles" Samuel Goldwyn's newest production, pro-duction, "Raffles," which will have a gala premiere at the Rivoli theatre thea-tre on Wednesday, through United Artists release, stars David Niven as a suave crook. Pictured as a society favorite and a champion on the cricket field, Raffles, however, cannot resist the lure of living the life of an adventurer in crime. But when he, falls in love and becomes engaged to Gwen Man-ders, Man-ders, played by lovely Olivia de Havilland, Raffles decides to give up his secret life of crime. Unexpected Unex-pected events intervene, however, and Raffles is forced to focus his attention on the famous emerald nacklace of Lady Melrose, an eccentric ec-centric dowager, who invites him to her country estate for a weekend. week-end. Niven and Miss de Havilland are supported in this exciting mystery-melodrama by such expert troupers as Dame May Whitty, Dudley Digges, E. E. Clive, Peter Godfrey, Douglas Walton, Keith Hitchcock and Lionel Pape. The production was staged by Sam Wood from the screen play written writ-ten by John Van Druten and the late Sidney Howard. |
