Show Thermo! Ponor Co. rig begins drilling at Eloosouclf Springs and supplying mud products to the rigs. Thermal Power Co. of Utah moved the Loffland Bros, drill rig, that has been drilling drill-ing at Cove Fort, to Roosevelt Roose-velt Springs, about 13 miles northeast of Milford last week and they were making hole this week. The rig moved into the section next to Phillips Petroleum's Pe-troleum's 12-35 which is one of their first successful wells and is equipped with a separator, sep-arator, and has undergone the most testing. The Loffland Bros, rig is the same one that drilled 12-35 and all the other Phillips Phil-lips wells in the area, until the recent permits were acquired ac-quired and Phillips Petroleum Petrol-eum brought in a Signal rig which is drilling a couple miles south of 12-35. Thermal Power is a subsidiary sub-sidiary of Natomus, who has done extensive work in geothermal geo-thermal exploration in California. Cali-fornia. Getty Oil Co. has submitted submit-ted a plan of operation to do a passive seismic survey on Getty's lease U -27391 and Phillips Petroleum's leases U-27390 and U-27392. The proposal does not require re-quire any surface disturbance disturb-ance and there will be no on-site on-site field inspection. The USGS urges you to send written commentary on the proposal even if you are of the opinion that existing regulations, reg-ulations, lease terms, and operational orders provide adequate environmental protection. pro-tection. The address to write is: Area Geothermal Supervisor, USGS, Conservation Division, Divi-sion, 345 Middlefield Road, MS 92, Menlo Park, Calif. 94025. Thermal Power plans to drill at least two wells in the area. Phillips Petroleum' has sixteen permits and plans at least three wells this year. Phillips has drilled eight wells previous to last February, Feb-ruary, and five have produced produc-ed commercial steam. They were delayed until three weeks ago, because their permits were not approved by USG5. Union Oil Co., who purchased pur-chased federal leases in the Cove Fort-Sulfurdale area for $2.7 million dollars in 1975, tried a wildcat on Forest For-est Service land. They were forced to abandon the hole due to underground cavities. They now will have to proceed pro-ceed to acquire drillingper-" mits from USGS. UP&L, Geothermal Kinetics Kinet-ics and McCulloch Oil tried a wildcat in the Beryl area. Though they went nearly 12,500 feet, the hole was not considered commercial. While the Loffland rig sports mostly a Milford crew, it will not make the economic impact that anew rig would to the area, but with both rigs operating for the next few months, plus geophysical work and Geo-nomics Geo-nomics doing trace studies on water throughout the county, the economic boost to the county is pretty sound until the first of the year at least.
