Florence was a highlight in Italy, the city that boasts more original "Mi-chelangelos" "Mi-chelangelos" than any other place in the world. Seeing the "David" was special; and the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans even more than photographs photo-graphs indicate. Garthe climbed to the top while Helen prayed for his safety in the nearby cathedral. All in all, they had a wonderful won-derful time, went so many places and saw so much that formerly was just pictures and words in books. And they are happy to be home. It is good, they say, to be safely back in Milford. Gnrth: C:aks return from Eurgrn trip The Garthe Banks have returned from a five -week trip to Augsburg, Germany, where they visited with their daughter, Mrs. Donald Good-liffe, Good-liffe, and family. They found them well, happy, and enjoying enjoy-ing their temporary home very much. While there the group toured quite extensively in Bavaria and Austria, and made asix-day tour of north-em north-em Italy. Some places visited were: Neuschwannstein, the fairytale fairy-tale castle built byMadLud-wig, byMadLud-wig, king of Bavaria, and copied by Walt Disney for Disneyland; Der Dom, an enormous Catholic cathedral in Augsburg which houses the oldest stained glass windows still in existance; Berchest-gaden, Berchest-gaden, Adolph Hitler's retreat; re-treat; Weis, a cathedral of miracles in a meadow surrounded sur-rounded by farms ; Saltzburg and Linz in Austria; and many, many more old, historic his-toric and beautiful churches, galleries, and public buildings build-ings in Germany and Austria. Garthe visited some of his World War II haunts and was disappointed to find things "over there" also suffer the pangs of progress. In one of : his favorite little villages he found that they had literally liter-ally moved the buildings, stone by stone, back to accomodate ac-comodate a two -lane road. When he was there an armoured arm-oured truck couldn't even travel through the town. Riding in Venice's "street ' cars" was surely exciting, and observing artisans |
