Last December the UHP, with Safe Community volunteers, conducted seatbelt and child restraint surveys in Kane and Garfield Counties. Just torefresh your memory, here are a few results. Only 39 of the city drivers in Kane County used seatbelts. In Garfield County only 32 of city drivers used their seatbelts. City passengers in Kane County used seatbelts 38 of the time. While in Garfield County, city passengers used their seatbelts 24 of the time. Of course seatbelt usage is always higher on the highways. Kane County highway drivers used seatbelts 68 ofthe time. Garfield County drivers used theirs 75 of the time. Highway passengers used theirs 78 of the time in Kane County and 85 of the time in Garfield County. Combine city and highway overall usage was; drivers in Kane County 45, drivers in Garfield County 55. Passengers usedtheir seatbeltsin Kane County 47 and in Garfield County 53.
