For several years it has been the ambition of the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce to purchase the Lyde Brown property and present it to the city as additional park space, and also as a location for the library building, as soon as the city is financially able to build it. The deal was closed the first, of the week, part of the funds being available and the balance to be paid later. On Wednesday afternoon a half holiday was declared and most of the business and professional men of the city, donned working clothes and began the work of cleaning up the lot. The old house was torn down and the adobes sold to Bazil Walker for relining his new home to be built soon. It was really amusing to watch this "white collared" group of workers put forth their best efforts. After a full afternoon of handling big adobes, all of workers went home dirty. The little "Dinty Moore" shop on the property was sold to Frank Rich-ins Rich-ins and will be moved at an early date. The fence was sold to Renard Benson and is being torn down by him. Other parts such as windows and sash doors and door froms, flooring floor-ing and sheeting are being stacked in piles and will be sold for buildings of some kind or for kindling wood. Tha broken adobes and other rubbish will be scraped into the old cellar as soon as teams and men can donate a day's work to help in this cause. It should be the desire of all men to donate their bit in this public work. Today (Saturday) has been set apart as another clean-up day to finish this project. Men and teams are needed. Leave word with Dr. Huchel or any of the committee, and come and help in this public work. If you are unable un-able to come send $3.00 to the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce for other efficient services. The county have promised to bring their tractor and pull out the old trees. It is to be hoped this work can be accomplished before the final close of the Clean Town campaign, cam-paign, Wednesday, April 17. |
