Show At Springville Tonight . . . Vikes Shake Early 'Blahs' to Crush Pioneers 36-12 Playoff Hopes on Line Against Devils, 7:30 ' ; '' Photo by Steve Hams by Guy Madsen Pleasant Grove shook off two first quarter Pioneer touchdowns to come back and bury the Lehi Pioneers 36-12, last Friday. Lehi showed they were ready as they took the opening kickoff and marched 68 yards to paydirt in just 7 plays. A 2-point conversion pass failed. A Viking fumble on their 29 gave Lehi another score as a Lehi receiver made a nice catch in the end zone. The P.A.T. was missed and Lehi led 12-0 early in the first quarter. The Vikes were down after this but Cliff Wood brought the spark back as he blocked a Lehi punt and Jim Phelon jumped on the ball on the Lehi 14. Blair Caldwell took a screen pass in for the score but the point after af-ter was blocked. Another fumbled snap on Lehi's part gave the Vikes the ball on the Lehi 15 and 2 plays later David Swenson went in from 6 yards out. Moosman threw to Swenson for the 2-point play and the Vikes led 14-12. The Vikes almost scored again before the half as they took the ball 81 yards and on the last play in the half, Moosman hit Denning in fVifi pnH 7nnp hnf Vifi was ruled out of bounds and the half ended 14- 12. The Vikes scored quickly in the 3rd quarter quar-ter as they marched 58 yards down the field and Swenson made a fine run from 24 yards out and Moosman hit' Denning for the 2-point play. The Vikes took the ball late in the third quarter and went 56 yards for the score as Moosman went in from 9 yards out, and again Moosman hit Denning for the 2-pointer. A final quarter score came as Caldwell went 16 yards around the left end but the P.A.T. was missed. P.G. ate up the rest of the clock and the game ended 36-12. David Swenson had his third consecutive 100 yard plus rushing game as he recorded 106 yards on 13 carries. P.G. showed their offensive of-fensive prowess by posting 302 total yards for the day. The Vikes travel to Springville tonight to take on the undefeated Red Devils. Springville has clinched the Region 6 Championship and will be battling to post an undefeated season while P.G. will be out to beat them to keep the Viking hopes alive for post-season play. Game time is 7:30 o.m. RETURN SPECIALISTS Jeff Jackson (15) returns punt against Lehi as teammate Scott Kohler (33) blocks Lehi's number 75. Jackson and Kohler do a great job of returning kicks as well as playing in a solid secondary defense for the Pleasant Grove Viking team. |
