Show Roundabout Concludes Season WHEELIE WINNER Shayne Frampton is 1978 wheelie champion. a j ,a i Bfs aunt 1 m One of the highlights of Saturday races was the recognizing of the drivers of special awards awar-ds to be given at the end of the year banquet. These awards are determined by the drivers by vote. Winners of the Best Looking Car (the car that is kept looking sharp the full season) in each class were: Stock, Larry Park; Limited, Robert Newman; Teen, Kriss Sweat; A-Modified, A-Modified, Cliff Campbell Cam-pbell and B-Modified, Steve Hansen. Rookie of the year awards in each class were given to Limited: Kim Gardner; B-Modified, B-Modified, Steve Hansen; Han-sen; the Stock and Teen Class awards to go a father and son team, Kay and Rod Mitani. Another highlight this past week was on the bicycle races. When Bobby Leonard won the first race, it tied him with Steven Covington for winning the most races this year. As any of the boys can tell you the grand prize this year for the boy with most bicycle race wins is a brand new 10-speed bike, donated by Norton's Food Store in Pleasant Grove. So, after the other races were run there was a runoff between bet-ween Bobby and Steve. When the green flag was dropped, both boys were really trying, but luck was on Steve's side as Bobbie's foot slipped off the pedal, giving Steve the little extra he needed to take the win, trophy and a new bicycle. Now it was time for the Wheelie contest. As all of you readers know, Shayne Frampton had the win tied up before the contest even started, star-ted, but this didn't stop a large group of fellows from trying for the one day win. Our 'Old Pro' Shayne wasn't to be outdone. He broke his own record this year by going half way around the track on his rear wheel. Br BIKE WINNER Steve Covington won bike from Norton's Food Center Cen-ter by winning most races during 1978 and winning race Saturday. Shayne was awarded a Back Pack from the Lady Eagles and a $10 bill from Roundabout for his efforts. Car race wins for the day went to Steve Hansen Han-sen for all three B Modified wins. Mary West took the trophy dash and heat wins in the A Modified class with a visitor from Roosevelt. Von Edwards Edwar-ds took the main. Kriss Sweat made it a clean sweep in the Teen Class by taking all three wins. The Limited Class wins went to Steve Turner for the trophy dash and main, while Kim Gardner won the heat. Super Stock wins went to Cliff Campbell for the trophy dash and main. A Mr. Johnson took the heat in John Kunz's car. Dick Goetz won the Stock class trophy dash and main event with Marty West in Kay Mitani's car winning the heat. Councilman Frank Mills really did it this time. He had been in the tower telling Mayor Cornell Haynie how to handle a race car, just prior to their second Councilman's race this year. Yup, you guessed it, Mr. Mills went off the end of the track in the third lap, while Mavor Haynie was showing everyone how it was don. Mayor Haynie took the lead early in the race and try as the other drivers did, they just couldn't catch him. The Mayor won the trophy with Robert Williams placing second. Roundabout officials would like to express their appreciation to everyone who has supported sup-ported them in any way this year. We have really had a fun and successful year. The racers are some of the best people on earth. The Roundabout officials of-ficials also said they wanted to thank all the track help. |
