Show THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1978 THURSDAY OCTOBER 19, 1978 PI EASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH P.G. City Council Met on Tuesday Mr. Scott asked the council their feelings about a small neighborhood shopping center being included in the plans of the Wade Springs Sub-division. The council indicated that this would require a zone change and indicated that more thought and study would need to be put into the matter. Pleasant View Subdivision, to be located on 900 South, was reviewed and approved. The Bertch-Bah- e property realignment was presented and approved by the council. A duplex request from Hal Southam for the building located at 100 East and 200 South was also approved by the council. Representatives from Mountain Fuel Supply Co. were present to review with the council a way in which gas lines can be installed prior to the installation of asphalt roads, to prevent the cutting of new asphalt. The representatives explained the relatively new stub service program (Continued from page 1) complete. He reported that it is ex-pected the grass will be planted this fall. Drainage Problems Developers of Roxbury Sub-division, to be built at 1300 North 100 West, were present to request that the city accept the maintenance and responsibility of subsurface water drains. Because of the water level in this area drains will have to be installed. The council discussed the problem of maintaining these drains and the ex-posure to the city for damage created from backup into the homes. Con-sidering the liability aspect of the drains, the council voted to deny the request for the city to maintain them, and they also required that the drains be on the owner's property and not in the city streets. The request by the developer of the Pleasant Grove Mobile Sub-division to be able to install rolled type curb and gutter instead of the high back curb and gutter was gran-ted by the council. They noted the difficulty of moving trailers in and which the company has initiated and felt that this would be a solution to the problem. They noted that the developer of the subdivision has to apply for stub service before it can be effective. The council discussed the possibility of requiring the in-stallation of gas service laterals prior to approval for asphalt. It was noted that Orem has adopted a similar policy and that it appears to be working well in that city. Councilman Atwood was asked to prepare a plan whereby it can be assured all necessary services are put into the lots in a subdivision prior to the time the roads are asphalted. The council discussed the procedure for naming the new central park. It was suggested that a com-munity survey be taken to assist in the name to be placed on the park. Councilman Mills discussed the request of Lindon City to be able to use the city's animal control officer and equipment to help in Lindon. The council discussed this matter and felt that this could be worked out. Details will be worked out by the public safety committee. Councilman Mills reported that Officer Wayne Robison will be leaving the police department effec-tive Nov. 15. He will be resigning to accept employment in California. Mayor Haynie reported on the council's meeting with Governor Matheson in Pleasant Grove today. He noted that he felt the governor was very understanding of the problems of the community and will diligently work to help solve these problems. out of the trailer space using the regular high type, and approved this variance from the city standards. Sale of Wade Springs Property A survey map of the Wade Springs property was presented by Mr. Wimmer. The council discussed the possible sale of from 15 to 20 acres of this property. An aerial photo will be obtained which will locate the various improvements on the property so that it can be reviewed in detail. Mr. Wimmer also presented new assessments for the special im-provement district recently com-pleted. The council voted to review these rates and then hold a meeting for the citizens residing in the district to discuss these assessments. The recorder reported that a meeting with the Central Utah Water Conservancy District has been set for Oct. 30 to discuss with this group the future needs of the city for Central Utah Project water. Planning Commission Councilman Atwood reviewed the proceedings of the Planning Com-mission meeting held Oct. 5. He reported that they had recommended approval of a pre-scho- for Joni Hiller who resides at 1530 East 720 South. The council reviewed this request and granted approval subject to the conditions noted by the plan-ning commission. Buck Scott, developer of the Wade Springs Subdivision, was present at the meeting to discuss various mat-ters regarding this and other sub-divisions he has in Pleasant Grove. City Pledges Help for DUP In Renovating Old Relic Hall their interest in such a project by visiting the present museum or by expressing their opinion to any of the members of the D.U.P. or City Officials. Appointment for tours can be made by calling Alta Hone 785-293- advantage, and also to gather and display many other significant items of historical interest which would be avilable if there were a place to display them. Citizens of Pleasant Grove could indicate Last week representatives of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers met with the city council to ask for help in preventing further deterioration of the Pioneer Museum and Log Cabin. The roof and chinks of the Log Cabin and walls of the Museum have been badly damaged by the sprinklers and the weather. City officials promised help by relocating the sprinklers and the possible installation of a rain gutter. It is sad to see these beautiful historical buildings deteriorate and not be able to do what is necessary to restore them. When the Cabin was built nearly 50 years ago by the Daughters of Pioneers for relic displays there was a great amount of community interest and support. Funds and labor were readily available. The D.U.P. appreciates the help and support that is still offered as shown by the recent rebuilding of the west wall of the cabin by the Kiwanis Club. However, community interest in general seems to be at a low ebb. Many citizens of Pleasant Grove have never visited the museum or know that it contains one of the finest pioneer relic displays in the state outside of the museum in Salt Lake City. There is a possibility that the back room of the relic hall can be made available for display of further museum relics after the city moves its equip-ment and floats to one of their new buildings. This would entail the necessity of raising quite a large amount of money but would make it possible for the present relics to be displayed to better EAGLE SCOUT BADGE Daryn A.
