Show street closing gets ex club consideration at the regular semimonthly semi monthly meeting of the parowan carowan exchange club held monday noon at fen tons the problem of closing second north street to enable the school district to build a standard quarter mile track on property purchased ly by it came in for much discussion sion james C robinson president of the school board and L B bennett principal of the parowan carowan high school represented the schools interests in the discussion and S J ward and wm marsden property owners along that street represented their own interests mr robinson when asked to present the problem told the club that the main reason for wanting the street closed was that the property already purchased adequate for building a standard quarter mile track he said that it would be necessary to move dirt from the south end of the field onto the north end in order to bring the field down dow n to grade and that by closing the street it would be possible to use dirt from the street to do the job he said that moving the dirt from the street would leave a fall and that automobile and wagon traffic would not be able to use it but that the board had no anten tion of fencing the street or of closing it to pedestrians when asked about the plans for beautify beautifying irig the grounds mr robinson said that he doubted that any formal landscape plans had been drawn up but that lawns would be planted sprinkling systems installed wd aid a id that the area in general would be parked and maintained S J ward when asked his opinion said that he was averye finitely opposed to closing the street but that he would like to see work started on the project immediately or at least would like the school district to have the weeds removed from the school property which joins him on the west as it was a fire hazard the way it now stands wm marsden the other property owner involved in the controversy voiced his sentiment as being definitely opposed to the closing county commissioner H L adams said that if the board intended to beautify the entire grounds and maintain them as a permanent beauty spot that he aou would id be for closing the street I 1 for and against the other points 1 I 1 L C B closing were brought out by lbennett who said that if the street closed a traffic hazard would be left lie he stated that child i iren ren crossing back and forth from one campus to continually in danger of being hit automobiles he als also by passing said that the proposal of the board to beautify the grounds ground s would be a and would not 1 long time program be completed in one or two years or in other words would continue long as a school to be a project as existed here president ivan decker brought out the possible expense of opening another road to connect with the gap road and said he doubted I 1 that the state slate would stand the expense and that iti A all probability parowan carowan city would have to open I 1 another r road oad to connect w with ith estimated cs cost t of that one at a an n and said he doubted it if the city could stand that much expense mrs austin halterman of may wood california is visiting at the home of austins akstins Aus tins parents mr and mrs it L halterman she had planned to meet mr and mrss hai halterman I 1 hel bece e and together they were to go to grand granc canyon ana spend the weekend week end with austin who had a three day leave from albuquerque new mexico where ed with the army air he is is s stationed tation corps but last minute changes made it impossible for him I 1 to leave so mrs halterman will visit i here for several days |
