Show SOUND THE FIRE ALARM the startling scream of the fire siren on monday was a distinct warning to all citizens of this sorn community that the season for f tires is upon us we have had enough dry hot weather to bring weeds and other ve gation on our streets and vacant lots to a place where they will bum quickly once they are started and we have enough wind most of the time to make the problem more serious and this year with an abundance of spring moisture we are blessed with one of the finest crops of june grass and foxtail ever seen here these weeds stretch from our streets and vacant lots to all surrounding territory even the mountains up to a rather high elevation are covered with jupe june grass and shortly it will turn to a tinder box under the hot sun people are cautioned against setting this menace afire unless they know they can control its spread and children should also be warned against the danger A carelessly thrown lighted match or even a cigarette may be the cause of a conflagration which may wipe up several homes and barns bams in this community let us all be careful i the inadequacy of the local tire fire equipment to fight a large fire was amply demonstrated on moh monday i day as it has a time or two in the past and definite moves are on foot by the city to make the equipment more adequate but until this lack of equipment quip ment is remedied the big danger is still present right now there are many places within the city limits where the present fire hose cant reach even though iiii i arrives on the scene in plenty of time again this hose is old and nas many leaks which cut down the force of water at the nozzle so until more hose is added to the present supply all people should be doubly cautious and then when it comes this vigilance lence must not be relaxed to any great extent |
