Show 4 A communication As one opposed to closing 2nd and north street I 1 would like to submit a few ideas which I 1 think ought to t be considered before such a move is made Is closing the street necessary to my mind it is not or the school authorities would not haye bought the property without arranging first to have the street turned over to them A full sized shed track the main issue alpar apparently antly can be obtained by using the sidewalk on or the west of the block or on the th north or both and it if that is not sufficient it is quite probable that property within the block can be purchased to make up the difference Is it desirable in my opinion the disadvantages to the people ot of the east aas t side of town especially those living east of main street and on the blocks adjacent to second north would far outweigh the benefits of improved landscaping at the school grounds that might be obtained by closing will a traffic hazard be created if the street is not closed it seems scorns that sc ardely anyone seriously t thinks inks that the safety item in this connection will ever be a drop in the bucket compared with the safety problem we already h have ave on our main street highway 91 if the street is closed will the school board assume whatever expense e parowan carowan might become involved in to provide another road and old hollow crossing whenever anyone else closes a road they do so on condition that they furnish another right of way just as good we are told that the former state road engineer indicated that if parowan carowan decided to close the street the state road commission would find another road the old state road commission is no more and while the new one might find a road so far as the approval of their surveyors goes I 1 fe fee very sure that they louia say this new route will do if road is properly built but you build the road we or so to spend just because parowan carowan closes a street when the matter is i decided who will take part in the decision will the atty council make it or will me citizens if the catiz citizens ens make it will those in the southwest comer of town for example have an equal voice with those living east bast of the closed portion of the street it seems that those most vitally affected should have a proportionately greater share in making the decision should citizens like S J wara and wm win marsden be forced to accept the great personal inconvenience and the di devaluation valuation that would unquestionably result to their property by closing the street with no financial consideration in my opinion that would certainly be unfair I 1 am sure that if this street is closed there will be a lot of people in this town mighty sorry sony for a long long time and I 1 feel too that if go ing forward with the athletic field project is made contingent on the donation of this street by parowan carowan city then such action will constitute a very serious breach of the public trust to conclude I 1 feel that the closing of 2nd and north is unnecessary in order to have a standard quarter mi mile te track it is also unnecessary to the development of satis satisfactory factor y parking of the school grounds an important traffic hazard will not be created by leaving the street open it will be unfair to a large portion of the community to close the street it will undoubtedly prove very costly to provide a new road it is time construction began on this project as is without wasting any more time in an attempt to make the town over first IVAN DECKER |
