Show adams tells of road improvement program road improvements in parowan carowan ind and summit canyons were discussed at the exchange club luncheon on monday by commissioner 11 II L adams and forest supervise blaine bettenson commissioner adams told the club of plans for a scenic loop already in the building which will embrace summit canyon dry lakes bear flat and ceder cedar breaks he stated that the road was vas started last year in summit canyon and at present was up as far as the forest boundary which is as far as the county is authorized to go lie he told supervisor bettenson tenson that the county would send its equipment from the forest boun dary on south to encircle the sug afloat and from there into the head of bear flat if the forest would appropriate funds with which to do the work he estimated that between five and six hand hundred dollars would be necessary to complete the job across the forest boresi lands mr bettenson advised mr adams and the club that while this road was not on the forest road this year that in his ion funds not to exceed the amount specified might be obtained to finish construction of the road and that as soon an an en neer aoud be obtained to run a sarv survey over te th proposed route the work could continue he indicated that this would be done immediately and that work could continue about the first of next week another road which would intersect the summit canyon bear flat road and which was partly constructed ted last year would be the parowan carowan main canyon dry lakes road mr adams said he told the club that from the state license tax f fud u M ha haban T allotted to this road to finizzi ton ion work to the point of intersection with the summit canyon road he stated that as soon as a right of way could be obtained across some private lands and i a survey of the route completed that this work could and would be started several proposed routes were discussed for this road but no det def mite anite one settled on commissioner and Super supervisor vAsor bettenson asked the club to send a committee out with them on tuesday to make an as to the shortest and most feasible route I 1 since the club had not re organ zed and appointed committee committe ep for this years activities a road committee was chosen to act during durin 9 the year and to go with representatives from the forest and county in selecting a route members chosen were jess guymon chairman ray H adams and R L fenton as members I 1 in commenting on the general i route to be followed adams told i the club that in general the route rouie would be up summit canyon around the south side of the su ear gar loat loar then east to the south end of the navajo and into the south end of bear flat and with the present main canyon cedat breaks road at that point by opening pening up this new territory it would make one of the most seen scenic routes in this section 0 of f th the tale state and would be of great benefit to ranchers and livestock mei mea in tt that vicinity adams said the point of intersection of the dry lakes road with the summit canyon road would be at the forest boundary at the head of third house flat in pointing out other advantages of such roads adams said aid the whole route would have a ou thern exposure facilitating earli ier travel than any of the roads road that have heretofore hereto fore been constructed ted I 1 other matters matter taken up I 1 supervisor betterson gave a short I 1 mmary of the forest services findings in connection with a count in en deer herds on the dixie division of the dixie national forest during february he told of the number wr of deer estimated on the forest and d about what the kill would have abc to be this fall if the herd was at a number equal to the c number carried on the forest in the last few years A complete account of the survey was published in the times in an earlier issue ae e also asked the local gun and koa cub to call a meeting ot of all sportsmen livestock men tar far meis and the exchange club and make recommendations as to the number I 1 of deer it is advisable to remove I 1 from this section of the forest this recommendation he year said would have to be mailed to commission sometime the game this month I 1 R L fenton who was appointed I 1 of the club meeting at the last hinves investigation as to the I 1 to make an electric possie possibility ty ofer of installing aig lights his ii a at the presented vermilion milion the castle matter forest to camp told the club lie he M mr r bette bettenson I 1 that funds for for such projects were thought a he inot not adaila available b le but that worked of this sor sort t might be I 1 project out with the forest fores t people turn furn and wire an and d par ashing the poles furnishing the power owan city instructed to follow mr fenton was find through and these plans out what could be done conein in this regard |
