Show AAA recommendations HEARD AT washington measures which will assure full farm support of the nations defense program encourage greater conservation and give greater assistance distance si to the small farmer have been recommended for the 1942 AAA farm program by a conference of AAA state committeemen and other officials held in washington DC A golden kilburn executive secretary of utah state AAA announced today while the recommendations a as dratted drafted endorse the general objectives of the program at present they awill will make it possible for banners to meet quickly any changes in farm production required by the defense program the recommendations will form the basis of specific provisions of the 1942 program to be announced later the conference adopted a number of resolutions relating to d defense among which it urged farmers to avoid speculative expansion and to reduce debts and build up reserves of cash and farm commodities during the present period or of industrial activity and more favorable prices the conference endora ed the price control work of the office of price drice administration and urged higher taxes on excess prof profits it I 1 and incomes and luxury items and sales promotion of defense stamps stamp s and bonds to carry through the da i bense effort it also urged that due to shortage of farm labor in some areas priority be given to farm machinery and that a balance be maintained between farm and industrial industrial Idu du prices the need for better national nutrition wasl also emphasized pha sized as a defense aid recommendations of interest to utah farmers include that the conservation materials and service program through which utah farmers obtained 22 hundred tons of phosphate this year was recommended to be continued in 1942 that the cotton mattress and comforter programs be continued another year that the minimum payment of 20 per farm be continued in 1942 that the 15 allowance for tree planting be continued also that soil building practices include an irrigation practice to prevent leaching and erosion through careful control of irrigation water that marketing quotas be extend eato ed to potatoes that wheat farmers vote in a referendum fe feren dum before may 1 1942 on marketing quotas tor for 1942 and 43 that federal crop arnce arrice ba b extended to tomatoes apples and ana other crops as soon as practicable that farm storage of wheat and barley be encouraged that the program oe ile made more flexible to meet de defense f ense needs by eliminating general crop payments and providing higher rates for soil conserving work on cropland over the special crop allotment that a payment be set up for maintaining conservation uses this means the elimination of the general soil de plating allotment if this record emendation men dation is approved mr ker said recommendations were made for a more direct election of county committeemen and it was recommended that farmers be kept informed of the need for inevitable postwar post war adjustment |
