Show Captain Herbert Hound Over. New Yobk, February 4. Captain Herbert, who who was at the wheel of the tug boat "Blanche Page" when she ran down and capsized the long-boat of the Austrian corvette cor-vette "Donau" last night whereby one officer and five seamen lost their lives, was examined in the Police Court this afternoon. after-noon. Lieutenant Phillip Szcent Von Ker-esztes, Ker-esztes, of the "Donau,". presented an affidavit affi-davit in which he gave the names of the lot of men as follows: Seamen Thomas Tauzer, of Vienna; Joseph Ziparich, of Tune; John Matkezau, of Grads; John Lovenzir, of San Viganti, and Mark Martinovitch, of Spalats. The affidavit recited the fact of the drifting of the launch and of the dispatch of the long-boat from the corvette after it, the latter lat-ter being manned by those whose names are given, with seven others, who were picked up. The use of the signal lamps by the seamen sea-men was sworn to and then the disaster which occurred despite the precautions of the , men in the boat. The loss of life is harged to the -"culpable negligence of the. defendant," and the facts sworn to are corroborated cor-roborated by one of the seamen. Herbert was held in the aim of $2,500 for examination. |
