April ?R -The action of the rtepiihiicnn county central committee, which met here yesterday, In fixing the date for primaries, and also the early date for the Judicial convention set by the judicial committee for Mav 14, has somewhat upeel tho politicians. The short time given for campaigning took them by surprise, and one faction lias openly charged the other with using unfair un-fair methods to gain an advantage, asserting as-serting timt the holding of the Judicial convention so enrly In the season gives one candidate advantage over the others It is also charged that the committee was controlled by a political ring having hav-ing for Its object the distribution of the offices among themselves. The dates for the conventions are so arranged (they say) that If these candidates fall in landing the nomination In one convention con-vention ihev e;m come In later for a place on tho ticket for one of the minor offices. There are at least three aspirants for the nomination of countv attornev on the Republican ticket, with a fair prospect pros-pect of more to he heard from. George P Parker, formerly of American Fork now practicing law in this city, Is out for the attorneyship to succeed Jacob Evans, and Parker has a good fallowing from the north end 0f the county, while the south end a!s,, has a candidate In Ellas Hansen of Spanish Pork. These Iwo are opposed by D H. Thomas of Proves who, K is said. Halms ihe nomination nomi-nation by right of ions part service, ami also from n geographical standpoint II Is said that Spanish P.-rk has two candidates can-didates for the legislature, one of whom Is Henry Gardner, president of the senate sen-ate In the last legislature and also a member of the next one. having been elected for two terms. The PrOVO politicians also oh.ject to George Parker coming Into the race as a candidate from the Garden City, because be-cause of his short residence here, and insist that he become a candidate from American Fork. If at all. Then, on l no other hand. Provo has g hold-over senator. sena-tor. Alfred T. Booth, and a number of candidates for the. lower house. For this position the friends of Arthur Craven are urging his claims, and Fred Mulsh Is also spoken of for one of the four legislators leg-islators from Utah county There arc four lawmakers from this countv In the last legislature who arc expected to be In the race, none of them from Prove and there arc many hers hoping these four will again land the plums, thus giving (lie Provo seekers for the other offices a geographical advantage The members of the last legislature from this county were- W. L. Hayes of Pleasant Grove, J, H. Wootton of American Fork, John H. White of Pavson and M. A Packard of Sprlngvllle. As there is no United states senator to be elected this year. It Is said tho federal machine will not show its hand in the selection of candidates for legislative legis-lative honors, and the fight will therefore there-fore be entirely on geographical and personal per-sonal lines |
