Show rr rrrn1 r- - rvT IV Home By Ann Shields TT TV f dedications. The program, offered through the hospital on physician referral, reduces hos- pital rates, provides more autonomy for (the patient and enables the individual to recover at home, Ms. Johnson says. C Candidates for the home therapy are Screened for personal cleanliness and kygiene and care is taken to ensure the person administering the medication thoroughly understands the procedure, she says. If hospital personnel develop any doubts about the referral, the patient either remains hospitalized or returns to the hospital emergency room several times a day for shot therapy, It is essential that the patient trust the person administering the medication. Ms. Johnson says, adding, It may be scary at first for both the giver and the recipient, but more confidence is gained with each administration. Instruction for the medication is given at the hospital when the patient receives the IV catheter with the person to administer the therapy taught how to prepare the IV solution, and how to insert the needle into the patient's catheter. An instructional pamphlet reviews when and how much medication to give, what tubing to use and how to flush the IV to clear the lines. The first IV dose is demonstrated and given at the hospital. A nurse is assigned to go to the home to follow up the next Panel Buys Time for Warehouse Special to The Tribune FORK The American Eork Beautification Committee plans to pay for the controversial installation of e U fence around the old Chipman Building. rl Chairman Reese Clines said the $1,600 Jdan will take a big chunk out of the $4,000 budget. "We've looked at the situation, though, nd decided its worth it," he told the AMERICAN Ware--ttpus- com-mittee- 's 2Sity Council. The Beautification Committee has .been working to save the warehouse (from demolition, contending it is a his- Coric part of the community. City offi cials consider the building hazardous because of the extent of decay part of the roof is gone and one gable is unattached. Mayor Malcolm H. Beck said the city will call for bids for the fencing. Juel Belmont has worked for the past several months to save the structure and has said repeatedly that more time was needed to find a solution. She believes investors and builders can be attracted to restore the building, but says it will take time to get a commitment. Fencing the warehouse will give the committee two years to find developers for the property without leaving the city open to liability. Area Deaths atk ins, F lot erne successful experience, she says. One such success story involves a child admitted to the hospital for pneumonia. The child was fearful of the hospital, and the parents were extremely-concerneabout costs. Because of the IV Home Therapy Program, the child was able to be discharged from the hospital early and within two days of his return home was well enough to return to school Sail luFe Former U.
