Film review "Knemy Mine" is a good news-banews movie. The good news is that it features special cflects that are simply stunning It's hard to do new and creative things with special effects these days. Most everything pales in comparison to what George I.ucas has given us in the past few years. But the opening minutes of "Knemy Mine" are incredible. The other good news involves the Louis Gossett Jr. as performances a reptile-lik"Drac," a denizen from the planet Dracon; and Dennis Quaid. as a Buck Hogers-lik- e Earthling These two characters are intergal-lacti- c adversaries who find themselves stranded on an uninhabited and environmentally hostile planet. Will they learn to live with one anoth-er'- . Or will they annihilate each other? "Enemy Mine" loses its magic and becomes common. even hokey. That's too bad, be- - second place with $4.7 million, and "Spies Like Us" held onto third with $4 3 million. "Out of Africa," a Universal release, brought in $3.6 million, followed by "Santa Claus: The Movie'" with $3.2 million. Columbia's White Nights" dropped from fourth to sixth place on a gross of $2.8 million, and, "101 Dalmatians" brought in $2.4 million with its latest debut. The sets, the photography and Gossett's makeup are completely convincing, as is the transformation that takes place between the two main characters. This is a particularly daring performance for Gossett, and he pulls it BAMN the people standing outside eating their Carvel ice cream cones. It was all to elicit attention and experiment with realism. Sometimes the fights would be so realistic we had the audience dripping their Carvels all over their shoes. M. Where "Enemy Mine" stumbles is the storyline.
