Mill Assures Continued Activity at County Mines 1 Of trcmsndous Importance to the future development of Cedar City is tiie final settlement of the G3iicva tcd plant s&le to the United States Steel Company. The saV; was given final approval this week when the United States Attorney At-torney General ruled that the sale would not violate tha anti-trust laws. Cjmpletion of the sale assures the peace-time operation of this great war develoifd plant, and brings to the webt its greatest tiiunca of industrial development. Opeiution of the plant to supply Kis west with steel products, will bring to the area many new Industries In-dustries and assures the industrial future of Utah and other western states. And since the Geneva plant Is dependant upon the ore from Iron county evnes to feed its blast furnaces, Cedar City immediately takes its pb.ee as an important cog in the industrial development of tha Wei-.t, and will benefit tremendously tre-mendously from the continued operation op-eration of the Geneva plant. The iron deposits of Iron county have promisrd to play an important import-ant in the envelopment of Cedar City ever since Brlgham Young sent a party of pioneers to settle this community and manufacture needed equipment from the iron ore found here, but always its has been a promise for tto future - not for the present. With the construction of the Geneva phnt as a war time necessity neces-sity the promise became more real, but many feared that with the coming of peace the plant would be closed down and activity at the local mines discontinued. But with the final approval of the U. S. Steel Co. bid for the Geneva plant, this threat is past, and iron mining will undoubtedly become one of Cedar City's leading industries for many years to come. |
