Show Man Wanted In Cedar Apprehended By Portland Police Clyde Bell, alias, Charles Bell, of Los Angeles, was arrested In Portland last Thursday at (he request re-quest of Iron County Sheriff S. C. Lamb, aftfr county attoi.iey Durham Morris had issued a complaint com-plaint charging Bell with a felony In connection with the Issuslng of fraudulent checks, while staying in Cedar City during during the later part of May. He Is said to have is. sued a number of wortuless checks on the Bank of America at Berkeley Ber-keley California with individuals and firms of Cedar City. Sheriff Lamb, after being notified not-ified that Bell had been apprehended, apprehend-ed, left for Portland to return the prisoner to Cedar City for trial. Bell, who remained In Cedar City for nearly a month, wore a uniform uni-form of a commander In the U.S. Navy, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is Investigating the prisoner for possible violation of the Dyer act and unauthorzed wearing of a naval uniform. Sheriff Lamb's investigation of the case revealed that Bell had a long criminal record dating from 1918, and he Is said to have served terms In Calif. Tennesse and Nev. before coming to Utah. He Is reported re-ported to have been released from Folsom prison late last year, being paroled after conviction and son-ten son-ten le to 14 years for forgery In 1940. The defendant Is accused of cashing a $150 check at the Bank of Southrrn Utah, and another $150 In smaller checks with other firms and Individuals. |
