Show City And Schools Sign Recreation Leader -New Head Coach Inatlius Wright, Superintendent of Iron County schools, announces that a contract has been signed with Byrne C. Fernelius of Ojden, as head coach at the Ccdur City high sphool next yiar, and states that the contract Is for a combination combin-ation recreation and physical education ed-ucation program between the city and schools Mr. Fernelius will have charge of City recreation activities, and will devote his entire time dur. ing the summer months to the city program, and head the high school physical education department during dur-ing the school year. A graduate of the Utah State Agricultural College in 1941, where he was a lcttermun In swimming and track, and graduate assistant and coach for the 1941-42 season swimming team, Fernelius comes into his new position after three years of municipal recreation experience ex-perience in Ogdcn City. Connected with the naval physical phys-ical fitness program after his combat com-bat tour during the war, he was in charge with all swimming training train-ing at the Farragut naval training train-ing center In Idaho. His military experience as skipper of a PT boat which, with another American PT boat, sank six Jap PT boats In a six-hour engagement in Davoa gulf, earned him the bronze star. Mr. Wright announces that Monte Mon-te Bailey, who coached at the Cedar Ce-dar City high school for three years before entering military service ser-vice at the close of school In 1945, will also return to the school phys. ical education department, and wH! assist Mr. Fernelius with the training train-ing of competitive teams, as well as assisting with the school physical phys-ical education activities. Mr. Bailey, Bail-ey, who was released from mlltary duty about three weeks ago, will ilso teach some classes in biology ind the commercial department, Mr. Wright states. |
