Show City Councilman Interested In "How Other Cities Do It" City Councilman Burns L. Fin-linson, Fin-linson, who is visiting in the East, has been on the lookout for ideas of city improvements and writes is follows: Anyone interested In city government gov-ernment and the direction of city activities is continually on the wach for items of interest in other cities. Travelling eastward through the central United States gives one a grand opportunity to see what other cities are doing. Traveling by automobile one has a first hand opportunity to see how various cities handle their parking problems. Those cities which have parking meters seem to solve the parking problem the most satisfactorily. Logan, Utah, has Just put in meters, and it is doing wonders. One can park in the shopping ireas with ease. It is no surprise to learn that cars belonging to the business people on Main street soon were parked in the rear of business buildings. Most of us suspect sus-pect the same group in Cedar City now using most of the parking space on Main street where there are no meters. It appears that we in Cedar City are typical of many other localities. City officials find it is difficult to enforoe tSnelr parking ordinances, and tourists and other visitors find it difficult to find a place to park while stopping for a short time to shop. Heber City is doing what we must shortly start, that of extending extend-ing our sewer system. Heber had an efficient little digging machine at work on Main street. It would seem that such projects will soon be within the reach of cities whose officials really wish to costinue such Improvements. It is a good experience for Americans to travel over the broad lands which make up his native country. Tlie fertile fields of Colorado, Colo-rado, Nebraska, Iowa and Illlnoi are rich lands Indeed. Today I had the opportunity to visit the Lincoln shrines at Springfield Spring-field the home and tomb. After thoughtfully visiting the.0" places, one is certain that all America's wealth and good fortune Is not her material resources, but also the spiritual principles bestowed upon a goodly land by great personages, such as Lincoln. |
