Hopla, son of the late Dave and Lillian E. Hopla, has received an important appointment appoint-ment to a 4-year term on the Animal Res ources Advisory Committee of the National Institute In-stitute of Health, it was learned this week. Dr. Hopla, whose wife is the former Moyra Ullock of Spring-vile, Spring-vile, is professor of zoology at the Oklahoma University at Norman, Okla., and has done considerable research work. His area of specialization is entommology, the science of dealing with insects and the bulk of his current research is concerned with animal diseases. The 5-member committee to which he has been appointed, provides technical advice to several advisory councils of NIH and through the councils to the Surgeon General of the United States on matters pertaining per-taining to research and research re-search training problems. His appointment is effective July 1. The work is expected to involve in-volve considerable t r a v eling some of which will be outside the U.S., in addition to meets three times a year at the National Na-tional Institutes of Health at Bethseda, Md. Dr. Hopla granduated from springviiie High school and BYU, where he received a BS degree in zoology, entomology and bacteriology in 1941. In 1947, he received his Masters from the same school in zoology zool-ogy and entomology. In 1950, he received his PhD from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Law-rence, Kansas, and joined the Oklahoma University faculty in 1951.
