Show A SCHOOL MACHINE. Complaint has been made to the Standard that Supt. J M Mills called his parents and touchers' meeting last j night without notice to the people of the Fourth ward that it was in tended to nominate a candidate for the school board, and that, including lj the teachers appointed by Mr. Mills. ' there were only 50 people present. It is to be regretted that Mr. Mills deems I it more important to organize a machine ma-chine to carry out his wishes than to devote his time to actual school affairs. For some time it has been repeatedly reported that Supt. Mills was perfecting an organization that vould make hlra paramount in Ogden school affairs and that the parent-teachers' parent-teachers' organization was to be directed di-rected in hi6 interests. It can readily be seep that teachers laboring for Mr. Mills might readily induce enough parents, relatives and friends to attend at-tend such meetings as to serve Mr. Mills' every wish. The school board should stop the activity of its superintendent in the forming of a political machine. This effort to influence the board by an organized move may yet bring a response from the other side, and ir it does, there will be a tremendous outpouring If we do not misjudge tho sentiment of the community. We regret to note a playing on certain cer-tain prejudices by persistent campaigning cam-paigning What Ogden needs today is a school management so broad and inspiring that the community as a unit can get back of that management. Tho lack of confidence which now prevails is slowly undermining our school sys-' sys-' tern and eventually tho children of Ogden must suffer in their educational education-al training. rw |
