Show MIES APPEAR AS WITNESSES AGIST BERGEB CHICAGO. Dec. 16 Two jackies, former members of the Young People's Socialist league, were the principal witnesses today at the trial of Victor L. Berger and four other Socialist leaders charged with attempting to violate the espionage law. The witnesses are William Maukess of Waukegan. III., and Karl Berreitter. Berreltter told of attending a convention conven-tion of the Young People's Socialist league in May. 1917. at which he said several anti-war resolutions were adopted. j Maukess identified an anti-war resolution res-olution which he said William F. j Krusc. one of the defendants, assisted J in preparing and which was presented 1 at a meeting of the league on May G. , 1917. It urged all "workers" not to. join the army, even if drafted, and also called for contributions for "the de- j fense of members who might be in-! volved in difficulties because of adhcr-1 ence to the resolution.
