Show FARMERS URGED TO J! IE0 GROSS I All members of the state farm bur eaus are being urged to join the Red Cross in the Christmas membership drive, in compliance with tho following follow-ing letter sent out by President D. D. McKay of the state farm bureau: "Beginning with tomorrow tho American Red Cross Inaugurates a week's campaign for membership. In the past very little organized effort has been made to secure membership in the rural districts of the state. This year every grown person in the state should be a member. This cannot be, however, unless someone takes the lead In towns and counties where thero is no branch of the organization. To overcome this condition 1 ask the president pres-ident of locals and the county bureaus bur-eaus throughout the state, to get inj touch, on Monday, with the nearest) branch offico of the Red Cross and secure permission to solicit membership member-ship in the district covered by tho bureau organizations. "County agents, I am sure, could take a few hours of their time, during the week, to either help put In motion mo-tion such machinery as may bo needed to reach all who would otherwise not be reached, or to assist by their advice and their direction making the canvass more complete. In the cities every person will have the opportunity ot joining brought to his door and there will be n universal and hearty response. re-sponse. In many rural districts it will bo difficult and unless our organization secures permission to carry out a membership campaign in these 'localities 'locali-ties there will be small response. Not, mind you, because agricultural people are less generous or less sympatheic to humanity than others, but because the opportunity to express their generosity gen-erosity and sympathy through membership mem-bership is not made so easy. "In tho past farmers have responded to every appeal made by the government govern-ment In a way excelled by no other group of Individuals. Half of tho nation's na-tion's fighting force camo from tho farms and with the proper kind of campaign in every agricultural community com-munity half ot the membership of tho Red CroBS for 1919 should come from mon and women on the farms." |
