Show THE WORK IN SWEDEN report of a conference held at Norr koping NORR KOPING sweden october 26 1886 editor deseret news the Go conference Coa ference convened according to appointment at this place on saturday october at 8 pm there were present C D ajel sted president of the scandinavian mission J H quist president of the Go Conference and elders chas ellason 0 T nelson 0 J swenson Swen soa A G Ander anderson sou olof olsen ei elof t erickson icksoo Er 0 J nordberg No and C A H karlson all from utah and laboring in this conference A goodly number of saints and strangers were present at all the meeting conference was call called d to order oy by president J H quist toe time ot of the first meeting wan occupied by reports of the elders of their different fields of labor on sunday the at the forenoon meeting the branch reports were finished aud a statistical and aad a general report of the conference con terence tor for the tb last five months were given by president quist toe conference is divided into seven branches each presided over by an elder from utah in the conference arp are 37 elders 88 28 priests 32 tea teachers chers 16 deacons and members wk making a total of members in the conference 1 including nc luding priesthood of during the past five months 45 have been baptized 85 35 emigrated 7 were ped and 6 died aix six halls hails were hired in the conference for which a total sum of GM kronor was paid annually six relief belief societies and five sunday schools are organized all of which are in good condition one hundred and forty six persons persona subscribe for after this followed reports from the relief societies showing that they had not been idle but had bad d done doe much good for the poor tor for the agite assistance of the missionaries and tor for the good of the cause of truth generally the balance of time of this meeting was occupied by elders 0 F swenson and 0 J olsen in the afternoon meet tin tiep I 1 which commenced at t 2 p in if after tar the opening exercises the general church authorities together with the presidency of the european and scan din donavian avian missions were presented and sustained unanimously the utah elders were then appointed and sustained to labor as follows J H quist to preside over the gote brg borg conference charles ellason eliason to conferences preside over the 6 Go branch C H karlbon over the Norr koping J J nordberg over the Jon koping A G anderson over troll bettan 0 T nielson over the halmstad olof olson over the Wing Win gaker and elof erickson over the branches 0 J swenson was appointed to assist C H karlson in the Norr koping branch the balance of the time ef this meeting mee tint was occupied by president C D flensted principally elder quist making a few remarks at 7 p in another meeting was hold held the je time being occupied bv 0 J nordberg and dent 0 J fjelsted after which conference was adjourned without day A good spirit prevailed throughout sod and we received many good instructions the elders all expressed them selves as feeling well in their missionary labors and a renewed determination to do all they can with the help of the lord tor for the cause of truth until they are honorably released to return to their families and friends in the land of zion considerable opposition has been experienced and Win gaker branches f aiom boin priests we have been forbidden to preach b by y them and people have been to open their houses for us to preach in or to keep us over night on pain ol of heavy lines fines pastor lies and misrepresentations about the mormons cormons Mor mons and the condition ot of things in utah together with the bloodcurdling blood curdling tales of ef one in norway have been largely copied by the swedish press and of course have had bad the effect of keeping many from investigating the principles of the gospel glowver however we hope that in time the people will get their eyes opened and that a reaction will take place in our favor on monday the we held a priesthood meeting in which we had much I 1 usef usefull oil counsel and instruction from president C D fjeldsted we are again hundreds of miles apart in our different fields of labor cheered and encouraged with to fhe thought ot of the good time we had at conference and with a renewed determination to do all we can caa in the int interest irest of the gospel of christ i C A KARLSON |
