Show furnishing the music. All present expressed the regret at the close of the day's activities and pledged their support to make next year's celebration celebra-tion a bigger and better affair. Eligli School Alumni Day A Rousing Success The HocoiiU annual High' School AliiMini held Friday, May 17, will without a doubt K down in the annals ann-als of school history as a complete hui.ci.'ss and a celebration never to be I'oiKot'cn. The day's activities as oiil lined were carried through without with-out any irregularities, from the timej of assembling at I he high school in the morning until the strains of "Home Sweet Ifome" were played at the dance that evening. "li.i.ns" (irsuit Ingersoll, well known in this community for his athletic ath-letic ahililies and next year's coach at the American Fork high school, was elected the new president of the Alumni Association. Mrs. Detta Miller Mill-er Taylor was chosen as vice-president, Miss Edith Thornton as secretary, secre-tary, Miss Mary Abel as historian and Miss Violet Preston as Invitation chairman. This election took place previous to the banquet at the Alpine Stake tabernacle that evening. The day's fun begun with a "bang" Friday morning at 11 o'clock, when a snappy program was given at the high school before the student body, visitors, and .Alumni members. There were approximately 45 members present, at this feature. The following follow-ing program was enjoyed, with Mrs. Detta Taylor presiding as program mistress: Selection from High School orchesira under the direction of K. J. Bird; prayer, Lois Baker; words of welcome, Alumni president, Ross Nielsen; comic reading, Violet Preston; Pres-ton; presentation of tennis court from class of '27 to high school, Miss Helen Clarke; acceptance speech, Eli Clayson, president of the high school; cornet solo, John Webb; piano duet, Mrs. Mary Humphries and Mrs. Stella Smith; violin solo, Miss Lenore Crookston; jokes, "Hap" Holmstead, E. Ray Gardner and Eugene Bunton. Following the program, the high school domestic science department served a delicious two course luncheon lunch-eon to all alumni members present. Initiation was in progress during the entire day by the incoming senior "skunks." Among the most amusing stunts of this feature were the Interpretation In-terpretation of the roles of traffic cop, janitors, ladies in waiting, Salvation Sal-vation Army and other freakish antics. an-tics. At 2 p. m., an assembly was held, where the "goats" were taken through a rigid test, each! one relating relat-ing his activities of the day. Visiting was the main feature until un-til the assembling for the big banquet ban-quet at 8 p. m. In the Alpine Stake tabernacle. Approximately 140 were present for this event. The delicious menu was prepared by the Service Star Legion ladies and served by the Junior girls of the high school. "Hap" Holmstea'd acted as toast-master toast-master for the evening, fulfilling his position to the nth degree. Remarks and toasts were given as follows: Greetings to the Alumni, Principal J. M. Walker; toast "Why Men Leave Home," Eli Clayson; "Why a Woman Is Fickle", Virginia Eggertsen; toast to the Senior class, Luther Giddings; toast to Mr. Giddings, Senior class idvisor, Sarah Chipman; short talk by 192S student body president, Sylvia Syl-via Shipley; wortls of appreciation :o the faculty, C. A. Grant; talk by 1927 Senior class president, Stanford iVild; talk "Pangs of Leaving School," 1929 Senior president, Lu-!cll Lu-!cll Chipman; remarks, P. M. Nielsen if Tooele, former principal of the ligh school; talk, Bessie Newman, a 'ormer member -of the high school acuity; remarks, Violet Preston. Interspersing the speakers, a read-ng read-ng was given by Miss Lucile Mc Ulaster, a vocal duet was sung by tlisses Iris Evans and Faye Parker, 'Tabby and Bun" furnished several :omic duets, Earl Crookston sang a 10I0 "My Mother's Eyes," Karl Ben-ietf. Ben-ietf. played two banjo selections, a ;irls chorus from the high school ang a number and Dr. V. F. Houston ilayed a saw solo. Dancing was enjoyed following he banquet, the ..nierican orchestra |
