Show . Third Ward "Wins Again The unanimous scoring of the judges at. the semi-final contest meet at Payson Tuesday evening, May 21, gave Pleasant Grove Third ward first place in the M. I. A. competitive play "The Invisible Hand." The cast which consists of Bessie Newman, EIroy Nelson, Norma C. Christiansen, Mary Richins, Niels Fugal and Roy Fugal, met its keenest competition with the Payson second ward cast. The group was highly complimented compliment-ed on the splendid finish of the play, their costuming, finished stage touches touch-es and special attention to Wie fine points and techinque of the whole production. The entire harmony, realistic interpretation sent the message mess-age forcefully home to the audience. This group' has met three casts in the Timpanogos stake winning first place by 5 to 1 vote of the judges, the inter stake tryouts at Provo where six wards competed and the decision at Payson with the unanimous vote of the judges in their favor, placed them among the contestants who participate partici-pate at the church finals in Salt Lake, June 8. Coach Viola West is to be congratulated congrat-ulated on her very splendid work. Miss West has special ability along dramatic lines, whether she has coach ed group or individuals her work has been outstanding. As a fitting climax to the play at Payson, Miss West was presented with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, a special tribute to her. The Third ward M. I. A. officers, Louise Shoell, Marjorie Holdaway, Lucille Wright, Vance West, Harold Wright, Vard Johnson deserve special mention for the unity and untiring efforts which they have given ever since the play was cast. The losing cast won the respect and admiration of the entire visiting group by their very fine spirit and good sportsmanship. Their gracious reception of the visiting group was a decided compliment to the true spirit of the M. I. A. work. |
