Show i t - Y 1 A k ' . ; V V Joseph Bruno Open House Honors Hundredth Birthday An open house in honor of Joseph Bruno, who will celebrate his 100th birthday Aug. 7, will be held at the Helper auditorium from 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 8. Mr. Bruno, who was born in Cozensa, Italy, Province of Domanico, is the father of Moab's Mrs. Gene (Lydia) Gibson. Before coming to the United States he married Marie Reggio, who died in 1952. He arrived in this country in 1903, worked in Chicago, 111., for several years then moved to Helper, Utah, where he worked for the D&RGW and Utah Railway until retirement in 1942. Since the death of his wife he has resided with his son John and wife Yolanda. In addition to his children John and Lydia, he has another living son, Gaetano, in New York City. There was one son, Orlando, who was killed in World War II. He has four grandchildren: Joseph, Gaetano Jr., Billie Jo and Marie Nelson. There are also nine great-grandchildren: saxaphone band were big features, following an elaborate elabo-rate parade. The Brown building recently vacated by the post office was being remodeled to provide new quarters for he Moab State Bank. The Ides theater this week installed a neon sign and interior work was being rushed with the completion of the new show house contemplated within 30 days. The Moab recreational program pro-gram was in full swing with over 60 children daily taking 1 advantage of the free course in swimming. Some had advanced advanc-ed to a degree where they were doing high diving. 20 Years Ago Sam Taylor had returned to Moab to assume operations of the Times-Independent, owned own-ed by his parents for the past 46 years. Mr. Bruno also has three living brothers all over 85 years old. They are Gaetano, Geneva, N.Y.; Frank, Memphis, Mem-phis, Tenn.; and James, Sacramento, Ca. A special mass will be offered at St. Anthony Church, Helper, at 2 p.m. Aug. 8 prior to the open house. The family requests well wishers to bring no gifts please. |
