Show Meeting on August 2 to Consider Consolidation Vote Scheduling ; Citizens both for and against ' consolidation of government in Grand. County are being asked to attend a meeting of the county commission at 2 p.m. Aug. 2. It is hoped that a new date for vote on consolidation can be established then. In addition addi-tion Commissioners said Monday Mon-day they hope that those on both sides of the issue will discuss any necessary changes in the plan to make it legal and acceptable, so that further postponing of the election will be avoided. An opinion from Assistant Utah Attorney General Jack Crellin was received by Grand County Attorney Bill Benge last week. This opinion said, in essence, that if an Aug. 10 vote on consolidation approved the plan, the only way to elect members to a new County ..Cjutcil would be to hclrf. s special election for this purpose. pur-pose. Such a special election would be set by County Ordinance. In discussing the problem, it was decided that the time interval between Aug. 10 and the operative date of the plan, Jan. 1, 1977, did not lend itself to a proper election procedure. The possibility of amending the plan so that the operative would be later, allowing a longer period of time in which to elect County Council, was discussed. This change in the plan, however, would require a further 90-day waiting period before the plan could be voted upon by the general public. Competition was divided into age classes, with kids allowed to compete only up to age 14. The Buckaroo Rodeo is the annual fund raising project of Grand County 4-H. Consolidation (Cond. From Pg. A1) vote, it was decided to hold a meeting of interested persons both for and against consolidation consolida-tion to iron out as many problems as possible. Whatever election date is decided upon, it must be before May 17, 1977, the end of the 18-month time frame allowed after adopting a resolution of intent to place an optional form of county government gov-ernment before the voters. The original resolution was made by the County Commission Commis-sion Nov. 17, 1975, and the election must be held within 18 months thereafter. |
