Show Comp, News File Eox 6310 Lincoln, Neb, 60506 Sporfsmen Win First Round; New Hearina Set on Hunt A new hearing has been set by the Board of Big Game Control concerning the Moab Sportsmen's Club drive to receive a 3-day buck only hunt for Moab area units 30A, 30B, 31A and 31B. This came a few hours prior to the filing of an injunction by the Moab Sportsmen's Club regarding the printing of the hunting proclamation which would give the Moab districts 11 -days buck only hunt upon printing. President of the Club Dwight Johnston had traveled to Salt Lake to retain attorney F. Allen Fletcher to begin work on the injunction. While in Salt Lake Mr. Johnston met with officials from the Utah Wildlife and Outdoor Recreation Recrea-tion Federation and obtained their full support. On July 12, Johnston and the Wildlife Federation petitioned peti-tioned Mr. Bud Phelps, Director of the Division of Wildlife Resources, for a new hearing on the hunting units. Mr. Johnston also presented a signed petition from Moab residents containing 1600 sig- natures for a 3-day Buck only hunt. Upon Mr. Phelps assurance of a new hearing he also assured Mr. Fletcher and Mr. Johnston that the Board could made an amendment to the proclamation if they shorten the hunt in the state area. Because of this the Moab Sportsmen's Club decided to postpone the injunction pending pend-ing the outcome of the new hearing. Johnston feels that the Board has realized that they have made a mistake and will hopefully shorten the deer hunt in this area. Johnston stated, "This is an ideal year to the Big Game Board system of game management man-agement changed because it is an election year and sportsmen sports-men all across the state are mad about the Board's decisions. deci-sions. We have contacted numerous Representatives ' and Senators and have received receiv-ed good support for a new legislation." Johnston continued, contin-ued, "We need the support of all Moab residents. Please attend our July 24 celebra-' rion." |
