Mystery deeper than any that has surrounded any recent murder case in this city marks the killing of George L. Mills, manager of the Syndicate Loan company, com-pany, , who waa found Monday evening even-ing In a vacant furnished house on West Sixteenth street, where he had een lured by his unknown mnrderers and beaten to death. The police and detective force are today to-day working, with little other than theories the-ories In their search for the perpetrators perpetra-tors of the crime. The theory of money -. as a motive for the murder is still held. ' The murderers killed Mills with some) blunt Instrument and robbed the body of several hundred dollars' worth of diamonds and probably about 3100 la money. It is considered likely that the crime may have been committed by enemies of the money-lender, but no such evidence has been found. ' That the hands of the murdered man were found securely tied behind hts back with a length of sash cord has puzzled the detectives, as the binding .was evidently done after the killing. |
