Show BIGEL0W IS NOWAHERO Authcr Saves Two Women ; From Drowning In the. Adirondack. UTICA, N. Y., April 29. A canoe containing Poultney BIgelow, the author; au-thor; Mrs. Gertrude Atherton, author of "The Conqueror," and another woman, wo-man, was capsized and the occupants nearly drowned in Mountain View lake, in the Adirondacks. iThey had set out acrops the lake with the object of landing land-ing and fishing along one of the streams emptying into the lake. Mr. Bigelpw was rowing. ' They had covered more tha half the Journey across the lake, when the canoe was upset by a sudden gust of wind. All were thrown into the water, but came to the surface not far from the canoe. The women . possessing rare presence t)f mind, Mr. Bigejow was able to assist them to get a. Arm grasp upon the sides of the canoe. Then, aided by the wind, he began to work the craft ashore, ;and was finally able to land". They walked through the forest -to the Mountain .Vie, house. ,. The members of the party suffered from cold, as the waters of the lake have not long been free of ice, but asid from the chill and the loss of fishing tackle.
