Show GENTEEL ROASTING GIVEN GEN.f MILES Brother-in-Law of MaJ. Glenn Calls the General to Time in an Open Letter. . " ST. PAUL. Minn.. April 29. George C. Squires, a prominent attorney of this city and a brother-in-law of Maj. Edwin F. Glenn, has written an opn letter addressed ad-dressed to Gen. Miles, in whlchhe replies to the strictures upon MaJ. Glenn in the General's report upon the alleged atrocities atroci-ties in the Philippines. The letter saysr "If Instead of listening to the unsupported unsup-ported statements of irresponsible natives, you had taken the trouble to read the sworn testimony in the last trial of MaJ. Glenn, I think even you would have been convinced that the charges of atrocities which you so recklessly lay upon our officers of-ficers are as nothing compared to the hideous cruelties committed by the Filipinos. Fili-pinos. "In conclusion let rae suggest that not even your prejudice against the Administration Adminis-tration or the well-founded impression that you wont to the Philippines to find fault with existing . conditions Is a sufficient Justification for the General of a great army, which has gone through untold privations and hardships, to announce an-nounce to the world upon hearsay and unsworn testimony that his brother officers, offi-cers, graduates "of the finest of all military mili-tary schools, are unworthy, of the uniforms uni-forms which they wear." |
