Show Boy, it sure looked good to see the Tigers against Beaver Friday. No matter how poorly one of these teams Is playing they somehow some-how manage to make a contest con-test of It when they meet. The Tigers turned in their best game of the season and stayed with the Beavers until un-til the final quarter.. It gave Tiger fans a shot in the arm and should help the Tiger's self-confidence for the remainder of the season. Both clubs have the makings mak-ings of good' ball clubs if they can just get it together, and do what they know how. It's always disappointing to fans to watch a team flounder, when they have the talent to play good ball but just can't get things to mesh. Lets hope both teams can put it together for the rest of the season. - 0 Keith Dotson brought in a copy of the Beaver Enterprise Enter-prise dated March 18, 1876. It's the oldest copy of a Beaver County newspaper we've seen. It was evidently evident-ly in it's -third year of publication, pub-lication, and was quite interesting. in-teresting. ' Dotson said he had found it In the bottom of an old trunk, under clothes. It was in remarkably good condition. Was the Enterprise the first newspaper in Beaver County? We know there was a daily newspaper at Old Frisco in 1875. The County News predecessors were established es-tablished in 1900, and has had uninterrupted service to the County since that date, though th name has changed several times from County News to Milford News and back. 0 - Beaver City newspapers have had a more eratic start. At one time there were three newspapers going at once in the County seat. However, many were short lived, and the continuity has been broken many times. The present Beaver Press was 1 started in 1960. County News files are fairly complete back to 1915. However, there are no files for previous years between 1900 and 1915. We have seen old copies dated 1903. We are always anxious to see old newspapers and especially es-pecially old county newspapers. news-papers. Even single Issues (often important stories are the reason they were kept) will tell some history, and shed light on the early days We'd be Interested in com -piling a history of Beaver County newspapers, so if you have any information to pass along don't hesitate to give us a call. - 0 - Have you noticed the price of peanuts recently. Old Skippy may be out of a job at the White House, but his peanut warehouse should do alright. But what are we poor people going to do for peanut pea-nut butter? Highly recommended recom-mended for it's nutrients, It was one food you could practically live on when the cash got low. You could feed it to the kids, the dog and even fatten the pig. And if things got rough enough, you could eat It your -enough. Maybe Skippy plans to take a line out of history, 'Let them eat cake.' - 0 The Christmas Cards are beginning to roll ln. We don't pay too much attention to those that arrive before Thanksgiving, because they are generally Impersonal, from companies, or agencies that Just do It as a matter of policy. But after Thanksgiving come the meaty ones, from friends and relatives who generally only write once a year. It's an opportunity to catch up. Christmas letters have taken the rap ln recent years particularly in the news media, me-dia, and advice columns. And we agree that we're not to impressed that so and so's dog had nine pups, the kids have brains and the well ran dry. Still, we glean many items of Interest out of the Christmas Christ-mas letters that we are Interested In-terested in, and feel that it is well worth while tc ( Continued on Pag 8) here's more about LEGISLATIVE ACTION the Great Salt Lake to the south shore of the lake for use In highway construction there. I guess you could say In the realm of possibility, any thing and everything could come under the scrutiny of members of the legislature when so directed by that body. By this time of year, as a result of their study, many of these committees have formulated legislation they Intend to submit to the next session where the whole body will get the chance to decide whether the proposals are for or against the best interests in-terests of the people of Utah. Hopefully, some of you in legislative District 72 have been made aware of some of these proposals and have formulated an opinion about the proposals and will convey that feeling to me or your state senator before or during dur-ing the upcoming general session of the Utah Legislature. |
