Show GEOTHERMAL ENERGY DEVELOPMENT The State of Utah, aided aid-ed by funds from the U.S. DOE is sponsoring a geo-thermal geo-thermal commercialization project to aid in the development de-velopment of Utah's geo-thermal geo-thermal resources. The project was begun in 1977 and has been directed through the Divison of Water Wat-er Rights. Statutory law in Utah gives regulatory authority of geo-regulatory geo-regulatory authority of geo -thermal energy to the Division Di-vision because nearly all occurrences oc-currences of the resource are associated with water. Utah Is one of only several States where significant amounts of highly usable geothermal energy occur. The aim of the project Is to aid In the identification identifica-tion of potential sites where geothermal energy can be used In residential, commercial com-mercial and industrial applications. ap-plications. With present uses in space heating and processing, and future plans for electrical generation and alcohol production; pro-duction; geothermal energy will play an important role in the energy future of Utah.
