Show Campus Being Prepared As Recreational Center In addition to providing accomo-! dation for school physical education-al education-al and athletic activities, such as track, football, soft-ball, kick-ball :-:nd other types of gamss and contests, con-tests, it is intended to supply the community need for a place to participate par-ticipate hi summer games and activities. ac-tivities. As a play ground center, it should replace the inconveniently located city park and bring baseba': etc., within easy access to the townspeople. towns-people. It. is to be hoped that the various civic organizations will pool their interests in the improvement and maintenance of the "campus." The school and community are indebted in-debted to the whole-hearted and unselfishness work of James H. Walker and other members of the old Lion's club and Chamber of. Commerce and to the Alpine School Board for the part they rendered in securing the property for the present site. In the improvement program, the city officials, through their committee commit-tee in charge of the R. F. C. and uwa worKS, nave oeen instrumental instrumen-tal in carrying forward a great part of the work already accomplished-County accomplished-County Commissioner J. W. Gill-man Gill-man has been gererous in extending! extend-ing! use of the county trucks and grader to aid in the completion of this project. While the campus is not nearly completed, it is approaching a point where it can be used and the various var-ious school groups -of all ages, giving giv-ing expression to the spirit of restraining re-straining impatience are to be seen racing around the track and playing play-ing on the field. As time goes on, it is planned to sow to grass and plant to shrubs, flowers and trees the various portions por-tions available for those purposes. It should become a thing of refreshing refresh-ing beauty from a landscape point of view, as well as serve a part of much needed usefulness from an activity point of view. All people who have been instrumental instru-mental in its advancement whether by lending moral support, financial assistance, or work should feel their efforts repaid as it nears completion com-pletion and contemplate the contribution contri-bution it will make to our community commun-ity life. n |
