Show PIONEER DIES -AT AGE OF 77 Largely Attended Funeral Services Ser-vices Held Tuesday Afternoon at Gunlock for Franklin Holt Franklin Holt of Gunlock, Dixie pioneer, passed away in St. George at 7 o'clock Sunday evening from kidney trouble after an illness of several months. He had been at the homie of his sister, Mrs. Rachel Cottam! Cot-tam! in this city since November 2, while receiving medical treatment. Franklin Holt was born July 31, 1852, at Ash Hollow, while his parents, par-ents, James and Parthenia Overton Holt were crossing the plains' on their way to Utah from Nauvoo, 111. They first settled at Ogden then came with the pioneers in 1862 as far as Washington where they made their home for three years. They moved from there to Long Valley but due to Indian troubles they were compelled to leave and moved to Mountain Meadows where he lived until his marriage to Emma J. Truman Tru-man of that place in the Endowment Endow-ment House at Salt Lake City in July, 1874. , He made his home at Gunlock the rest of his life and was bishop there for 30 years. Ten children were born to this couple, six of whomi survive. They are Franklin T. of Raymond, Canada, Can-ada, Mrs. Clara Chadburn of Delta, Mrs. Nancy Bowler of Mesquite, and Mrs. Mary Ellen Hunt, Mrs. Annie Bowler and Wilford Holt of Gun-lock. Gun-lock. His wife passed away eight years ago. The following brothers and sisters survive: Henry D. Holt and Mrs. Rachel H. Cottam of St. George, George A. Holt of Enterprise Enter-prise and Mrs. Nancy Slade of Provo, and a large number of grandchildren grand-children and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Gunlock at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon after-noon and were largely attended. |
