PLATFORM ADOPTED BY ROAD ASSOCIATION The Arrowhead Trails Association proposes to enter upon a campaign to secure the opening of a travel-able travel-able road between St. George and Kingman via the shortest and most feasible route; to aid in the irru-provement irru-provement and shortening of the road between St. George and Pa-naca, Pa-naca, Nevada, to the end that the Arrowhead Trail, the. Lincoln and Victory highways may be tied together to-gether via Pioche; to use its best efforts executive, legislative and through its publicity department to effect a reconnaisanee for an east and west highway connecting the Mesa Verde National park in Colorado with the Grand Canyon highway to the Grand Canyon national na-tional park in Arizona, crossing the state of Utah north of the San Juan, river, thus making accessible this region of scenic, wonders and archaeological treasures;' to assist Mohave county, if requested to do so, in securing funds to shorten and improve the motor road between Kingman and Phoenix, Arizona. If a feasible route for a motor highway be found between the above mentioned national parks, the north and south road projected by Arizona to cross the San Juan river at Bluff becomes of, the greatest value to the states of Utah, Colorado, Colo-rado, New Mexico and Arizona. It will also serve as a connecting link between the state highways of Colorado, Colo-rado, the Grand Canyon highway, the Arrowhead Trail to Salt Lake City and Los Angeles and the Lincoln Lin-coln and Victory highways west of the Great Salt Lake. The utilitarian value of . the. King-man-St. George road to Arizona and Utah can scarcely be over-estimated. It constitutes the link needed to complete an intermountain trunk highway between the Canadian border bor-der on the north, the Mexican border bor-der on the south, and on to Mexico (Continued on page 6) PLATFORM ADOPTED BY ROAD ASSOCIATION (Continued from page 1) City, as it is the understanding of the officers of this association that work is under way on a motor road between Mexico City and Nogales, at the Arizona-Mexican border. It is a matter of fact that Salt Lake City is the junction point for the heaviest traveled east and west mid-continent highways. It is also true that Phoenix occupies the same relative position as Salt Lake City regarding the trunk automobile roads crossing the United States at or near its southern boundary. It is the belief of the Arrowhead Trails association as-sociation officers that an all-year motor road should be opened at the earliest passible date between Phoenix Phoe-nix and Salt Lake City to permit of interchange of business both tourist and commodity. They are convinced that with the construction construc-tion of this road and the completion comple-tion of the highway from Flagstaff to Fredonia, tens of thousands of vacationists will travel the loop marked by the Hamblin-Hastelle bridge, the Zion-Mit. Carmel tunnel and the Boulder reservoir. The scenic scen-ic wonderland tapped or included in this circuitous journey stands unrivaled un-rivaled amiong the worlds' galaxy of vacation lands and guarantees protracted pro-tracted visits by the . motoring Bedouins. Be-douins. It will also bring about a better understanding by Arizona of the needs of Utah, and by Utah of the Arizona requirements. The officials of the Arrowhead Trails Association believe that transcontinental trans-continental tourist traffic is of the utmost importance to the intermoun-tain intermoun-tain states. They are convinced however, that every effort should be put forth to induce the vacationists from the Pacific coast to spend as much time as possible each year, amid the grandeurs adjacent to the Colorado river. To gain this end requires federal participation to the greatest possible degree. It is beyond be-yond the means of the communities of Utah, Arizona and Nevada to bring about highway betterment as above outlined without federal aid. To that end it is the hope of the officers of the association that they may receive widespread support morally and financially that they will represent a united citizenship of the interested communities, when they request that the federal government gov-ernment cooperate with the states of Arizona and Utah in constructing construct-ing a road of major traffic capacity between St. George, Kingman and Phoenix. The world-wide interest in the harnessing of the Colorado river may be capitalized on by the states only if highways are constructed so that all parts of northern Arizona, southern Utah and eastern Nevada are made easily accessible to the motorist. It is the history of the desert west that development of mineral and agricultural resources has immediately followed the opening open-ing of trails and highways. Settlement Settle-ment of a country spells taxable wealth and the interchange between communities of products which, in turn, represents commerce the backbone back-bone of sectional and national greatness. great-ness. RESOLUTIONS Resolved, that the convention, standing, pay silent tribute to the memory of three former officers of the Arrowhead Trails Association who have passed to the Beyond: Williami Spry, Simon Bamburger and H. H. Lunt, who, each and all, gave liberally of their time and valiantly val-iantly fought for the betterment of the arteries of transportation in the intermountain region thus assisting the communities of southern Utah, northern Arizona and eastern Nevada Ne-vada to more equal opportunities educational and financial with the more populous districts; Second That the president be requested re-quested to appoint legislative, publicity pub-licity and engineering committees. Hail who have secured the cooperation of the city council of St. George and the commissioners commission-ers cf Washington county: Be it further resolved, that it is the sense of the Arrowhead Trails Association in convention herein assembled as-sembled that cooperation of Utah, Arizona and Nevada is required in crder that the highway development p'.ar.s under consideration by the association as-sociation be worked cut to the betterment bet-terment of all these interested communities; com-munities; That the membership fee of the Arrov.-head Trails Association be j fixed at S5 per year, and all present pres-ent are urged to enroll thenvelves j and use their best efforts to secure additional members, for without adequate ad-equate finances the highway development devel-opment plans submitted will be delayed. |
