Show Week End Programs Present Outstanding Opportunities to Residents in Fine Arts Field Annual Art Exhibit Opens Sunday ; Donald Wright Featured at Program' Nineteenth annual Southern Utah Art Exhibit will open in Cedar City Sunday, April 12 with over 150 pointings point-ings from throughout the breadth of the United States, as well as works from artists from Old Mexico and France, to be on view, according to Mrs. Leatha Prestwich, chairman chair-man of the art committee. The show will be staged in the gymnasium of the Cedar Ce-dar CM? High School and elaborate preparations have been made to make it one of the finest, fin-est, if not the finest, ever staged. Exhibit will open to the public at 2 p. m. Sunday and the first of three special programs In connection con-nection with the event will be staged In the gymnasium at 4 p. m. Sunday's program will feature fea-ture Donald D. Wright, assistant professor In the department of fine arts at Utah State University in Logan. He Instructs in the field of metalsmithing and three dimensional design. Opening Program This program, the first of Its kind to be presented in connection connec-tion with the annual show, is expected to draw considerable interest to citizens of the area. Mr. Wright Indicates that his current interests include cast sterling jewelry and pewter hol-lowware. hol-lowware. Mr. Wright, who has trained at Washington University in St. Louis; Southwest Missouri State College, Jfew Mexico Highlands University and Cranbrook Academy Acade-my of Art, will talk on the subject sub-ject of 'The Craftsman's Place In Contemporary Society." In addition addi-tion to his remarks he will also exhibit some of his work. The art committee pointed out that the exhibit will be open with guide service available each week day from 9 a. m. to 10 p. m. Conducted Tours Offered Specially conducted tours will also be available, by appointment, appoint-ment, Mrs. Prestwich said. Special Spe-cial tours will be under the direction di-rection of Mrs. Charles R. Hunter. Assisting, by conducting tours, will be Glen Anderson, head of the art department in the Iron County Schools; Max Weaver, head of the art department at College of Southern Utah; Mrs. Ianthus Wright, long-time student stu-dent of the arts and associate of the arts committee, and Mrs. Prestwich, chairman of this year's event. However, many prominent promin-ent and popular artists to citizens of this area are also participating. participat-ing. Lee Clarke Schuyler of Al- buquerque, N. M.; J. Richard Sor-by Sor-by of Denver, Harry Let th-Ross of New Hope, Pa; George Post San Francisco; Paul Salisbury of Provo and Calvin Fletcher of Logan, Lo-gan, are just a few of the artists who will exhibit this year, who have exhibited in past years. Local color is also added with paintings from artists such as Max Weaver, Glen Anderson and Mary L. Bastom of Cedar City.
