Show Fire at Farm Shed Puts Valley Equipment to Test ESCALANTE VALLEY a fire Saturday at the Willard Randall ranch which destroyed a shed, a new mowing machine, and other oth-er small equipment provided the first real test for the Escalante Valley fire engine, which was only on-ly recently returned from the county shop where it had spent the winter. The fire was started when weeds which were being burned along a south ditchbank blew over Into some hay by the shed. The fire engine was parked at Wood's Service pending construction construc-tion of a firehouse and organization organi-zation of a fire department and jome minor repairs. When the fire was reported Bryner Wood, Austin Moyle, Dewey Godard, and Carl Anderson hastily Installed In-stalled a new battery In the engine, en-gine, gathered up the hose and equipment and got the engine going. They reached the scene of the fire before the Enterprise fire department which was also summoned, had started pumping water from a large irrigation well to prevent the flames spreading to the house and other buildings nearby. It Is reported that the fire engine en-gine functioned effectively despite de-spite the fact that it had stood idle in the county shop for such a long time. |
