Show Escalante Coordinating Council Discusses Many Community Problems and Activities 'ESCALANTE VALLEY At a meeting of the executive committee commit-tee of the Escalante Valley Coordinating Co-ordinating Council last Wednesday Wednes-day a variety of problems were discussed. Bob Hyde, a member of the board of directors of the South Central Utah Telephone Assn. reported re-ported that for various reasons the telephone company had lost approximately $900 during January Jan-uary and February, and that unless un-less more telephone customers can be obtained in the eastern end of the system it will be necessary nec-essary to make a slight rate increase in-crease over the entire system. In an attempt to line up more subscribers the company sen Ferdinand Erickson of Monroe, Sevier County, a member of the Utah State Legislature, and attorney at-torney for the company to Salt Lake City last week to see what could be done about obtaining the right to serve the many resorts re-sorts that are expected to be built between Glen Canyon and Boulder. It was decided to atempt to set up a valley development meeting to be held either Monday, Mon-day, April 27 or Wednesday, April 29 and Invite these two men, In addition to-a represeru. tative of the Y-Z Trail Assn., and the Five County Organization to discuss ways and means of promoting pro-moting the growth and prosperity prosperi-ty of the area. It was reported that the Escalante Escal-ante Valley Wildlife Federation was again planning a rabbit hunt for the Las Vegas Sportsmen's Sports-men's Clubs. This hunt will be held either April 18 and 19 or 25th and 2fth. The Federation is also planning to dike the dry lake in order to catch rainfall for the benefit of wildlife. It was reported that the Forest For-est Service had required the removal re-moval of television equipment from the E hill above Enterprise since it was located on forest property, and that this equipment equip-ment is now being Installed on the Windsor hill. In the final action of the evening eve-ning it was voted to set up a committee to control u.-te of the new community building and to set up rules and regulations for its use. Alex Wood, Arthur Piper, Kay Jolley, Bryner Wood, and Don Applegate were named to this committee. |
