According to George D. McMillan, SCS State Conservationist, Salt Lake City, the above priorities are included in the centers long range prog- which establish and maintain themselves under adverse conditions and will provide erosion control and possible wildlife food, cover and beautification. Upland game habitat: native plants that will provide food and cover and are easy to establish and tolerant of a wide variety of soil and site conditions. the operations and activities of the center which serves parts of habitat: native annual and plants that are salt tolerant and easy to establish for ram, recently released. The program will guide and direct Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Utah and is located in Aberdeen, Idaho. Work carried out at the center includes assembly, evaluation ' and release of new and improved plants needed to solve conservation problems ranging from erosion control to mined land reclamation. The priorities that will play a major role in the testing and selection of plants at the center include: Steam and gully erosion: ; plants perennial that will provide effective erosion control. Wind erosion on irrigated cropland: tall perennial plants, shrubs, and trees that are adapted for field plantings with several types of irrigation systems. Poor rangeland conditions: deep-roote- d perennial grasses, legumes, fobs and woody plants that will provide improved ground cover and water retention, grazing for domestic livestock, food and cover for wildlife and stabilization of erosive soils. Water erosion on dry cropland: vegetation for erosion control that will provide an economic return to the producer and not require livestock grazing. Migratory waterfowl waterfowl food and cover. McMillan said plant materials work is done cooperatively with soil conservation districts and landowners, as well as a variety of federal and state LPSTT ,r the four states.
