Show TRANSPORTATION OF SHEEP Regulations Promulgated by the Department De-partment of Agriculture The accompanying circular was promulgated mulgated yesterday by the state veterinarian vet-erinarian R A I Order No Transportation o sheep affected with scab United States Department of Agriculture Office of Secretary Washington D C June 18 To the Managers and Agents of Rail road and Transportation Companies of the United States Stockmen and Others In accordance with section 7 of the act of congress approve May 29 18S1 and entitled An act for the establishment establish-ment of a bureau of general industry to prevent the exportation of diseased cattle and to provide means for the extermination ex-termination of pleuropneumonia and I other contagious diseases among domestic do-mestic animals and the act of congress con-gress approved April 2 1897 making an appropriation for the department of I agriculture for the fiscal year ending June 30 IS98 you are hereby notified that the contagious disease known a sheep scab or scabbles of sheep exists among the sheep In the United States and that it is a violation of the law to receive for transportation any stock affected af-fected by said disease from one state or territory to another or from the district i dis-trict Into any state I Is also a violation viola-tion of the law for any person company com-pany or corporation to deliver for such transportation to any railroad company com-pany or master or owner of any boat or vessel any sheep knowing them to be affected with said disease and it is also unlawful for n any person company or corporation to drive on foot or transport trans-port in private conveyances from one state or territory to another or from any state into the District of Columbia or from the district Into any state any sheep knowing them to be affected by said disease All transportation companies com-panies and individuals shipping driving driv-ing or transporting sheep are requested to cooperate with this department in enforcing the law for preventing the spread of the said disease Inspectors of the bureau of animal industry are directed to report all violations of this act which come to their attention Tn order to more effsctuajly accomp isii the object of the above mentioned law it is hereby ordered that any railroad cars boats or other vehicles which have I been used in the transportation of sheep affected with rp disease shall I be immediately cleaned and disinfected tmmedlatel by the owners or by the transportation I companies in whose possession said cars or vehicles may be at the time the stock is unloaded by first removing all wool and manure which they contain and then saturating the woodwork with a 5 per cent solution of carbolic acid in water Inspectors of the bureau of animal industry are directed to see that this order is carried into effect Signed JAMES WILSON Secretary |
