Show heldAS ADS on DOLLARS Some Merchants Have n Novel Advertising Ad-vertising Plan Chicago InterOcean Ever since the pasters were placed upon the silver dollar and then put into general circulation by various merchants In Iowa Charles D Fulien United States district attorney for southern Iowa has been besieged with letters asking his advice upon the matter In answer to Mr Fullens inquiry the treasury department has sent him the following follow-ing i circular A new way cf using the government coins for advertising purposes was brought to the attention of the secretary secre-tary of the tKajiry toddy In a remittance re-mittance from a southern bank were found 1 number of sUver dollars on one side of whidh was pasted the printed card or U iel of a business firm As the paper on which the notices are printed is cut a little smaller than the coin and stuck on with the most adhesive ad-hesive clue the removal of the paper Is made with great difllcuty The inventor in-ventor of the scheme evidently counts on doing an extensive business as at the bottom of the card is printed Copyrighted Copy-righted lEn There seems to be no end to the ways and means used in the effort to use the cn as an advertising medium and evade the law This latest scheme i permitted would make all such pieces simply tokens for advertising advertis-ing purposes The department will not receive the pieces so defaced but will i return them at the ssnders expense I for cleaning otherwise the coin would have to b specially treated by the department de-partment for the removal of the paper before it could be reissued v I would seem from the reading of the above that unless congress should enact a law regarding the pasting of these coins the persons now using the coins for advertising purposes are not violating any law |
