Show I way entrances, and it is planned j this season to establish port of entry information offices at first Kanab, second at Wendover and third at Vernal. The establishment of state parks and ports of entry buildings build-ings will be by far the greatest step Utah has ever taken to-I to-I ward selling Utah to the tourist. bill is pending before congress providing federal aid to states planning for the establishment I of state park systems. Utah's state park plans cover a long range program and this year following the example set this month at Kanab state parks will be designated east of Salt Lake City at the "This Is the Place Monument," at Vernal and at Wendover. In addition, ports of entry working hand in hand with the state park systemlwill be established in a five-year program pro-gram at perhaps ten state high- -.I Spotlighting i I UTAH j COUNTY INFORMATION Information on every county in the state, such as its industries, indus-tries, resources, activities, and economic advantages has been gathered by the state depart- j ment of publicity and industrial development during the past few ' weeks. Every county was visited including the county seats, and the information gathered will be available to all who seek or can use such information. The first demand for this material ma-terial has been made by the County Officer Magazine, a national publication which goes into every court house in the nation, and which treats the state of Uah in is July issue. The I publication will devote two pages to each county in the state along with two pictures. A number of interesting obser-1 vations were made by the department depart-ment while making a visit and study of Utah counties, some of which are as follows: that almost every community in the entire state is suffering with a housing shortage; that war prosperity seems to have given every community com-munity in the state an economic boost, the favorable financial uplift up-lift of which will be felt for many years to come; that the rising of dry farm pinto beans in San 'Juan county appears to be the beginning of a major industry; that the oil boom in Uintah county has doubled the population popula-tion of Vernal; that Richfield's tourist camps are full by three o'clock every afternoon; that Cedar City's five year boom shows no signs of slowing up, for the area's future never looked brighter; that Washington county's coun-ty's turkey industry will soon be the number one money maker of that region; that the movies improvements, such as camp grounds with clean drinking water, toilet facilities, places for children to play and retreat's where families may spend a week end in complete rest and relaxation. relaxa-tion. The state of New York, years ago, realizing that the establishment establish-ment of state parks with the conveniences mentioned above would prove a valuable asset, now enjoy seventy-eight state parks which they list as their greatest asset, and New York tops all other states in the nation na-tion in tourist income. Taking note, Utah has inaugurated a similar plan of state parks, the first of which has been designated desig-nated at Kanab. Utah realizes that there must be places of recreation rec-reation accessible for the masses of its people. While it is true that Utah has many national parks, some reached only by long driving, communities need places within easy driving distance; dis-tance; places reached within a few minutes where one can enjoy en-joy ideal recration areas; places that folks can point to with pride for the enjoyment of visitors vis-itors and tourists. The importance import-ance of the creation of such local lo-cal recreation areas in various parts of a state in the form of state parks are recognized in the fact that at the present time a spend as much as $700,000 in Kane county in one year for cowboy cow-boy wages, the hiring of movie props such as wagons, horses, steers, ranches, and the feeding and housing of their location crews; that the major industry of Wayne caunty right now is getting out timber and sawing it into mine props for use in the Carbon county mines; that the area around Midway and Heber City should be drawn to the attention at-tention of motion picture location loca-tion managers; that those who remember the little town of Grafton in Washington county on east fork of the Virgin river wouldn't know the place now that a motion picture company has lifted its face and made it into real wild western town for use in the picture "Ramrod" now being filmed in Zion Canyon; that state park number two has been selected, dedicated in appropriate appro-priate ceremonies and set aside at Kanab, the first state park is at Filmore; that eating meals while traveling about Utah is not a delightful nor pleasant experience, expe-rience, because many eating houses in Utah running their business on principle of giving just as little food as possible for as high a price as the traffic will bear. A host of Utah eating houses figure that the type of prosperity they are enjoying now will never end. The food is poorly prepared and, poorly served under an attitude of "take it or go hungry." Competition and a lot of it will do much to place Utah eating houses back to a point where the traveler can get around the state without suffering suf-fering too greatly from indigestion indiges-tion and a weakened pocketbook.
